The Diary of a Precocious 2 Year Old

Well I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do as it has
been a while since my last post. I've been keeping so very busy that there simply isn't enough time to sit still and write my blog. Let alone remember it all.
This morning I had my very first
haircut – mummy chopped off all my curls. Not sure what Daddy is going to say!
Between you and me, I don’t think she should give up her day job – The haircut
is not exactly straight!
On the subject of firsts, I have
seen my very first fireworks show. And what a show it was! So much fun. I also went on my second 4x4 rally in the
bush. It was really long, but I managed to have a nap or two. We finished
second – a real team effort with Daddy driving, Mummy navigating and me
providing the backup entertainment. It was a really good day out, even if there
was no jumping castle to be seen.
I can now swim all on my own
(with my water wings or noodle, of course). The deep end holds no fear for me
and I am very happy to jump in all on my own. Well, I have been swimming for
two years now, having had my very first swim when I was seven weeks old. (That is me in the picture having my very first swim). Its very hot at the moment so we swim every
single day. Conversely, though, I have found the more I swim, the less I look
forward to having a bath. Not sure why this is, but Mummy says that it leaves
more room for her to have a bath on her own.
The hot weather also means that measure need to be taken to cool down. My favourite way of colling down has to be ice-cream. Unfortunately the freezer has now been taped shut - and no amount of shouting and screaming has resulted in the tape being removed! I have had to explore alternative forms of entertainment and anything electronic is always appealing. No matter how many times the camera gets hidden, I always manage to find it... I have only jammed the lens a few times and am getting quite good at
taking photographs. This can only be a good thing as the term “selfie” has been
acknowledged by the Oxford English Dictionary people. (This is supposed to be a
big deal). At the moment I am still relying on other people to take documentary
evidence of my feats, as my camera skills are somewhat limited to taking
pictures of the floor or my ears, but I am sure that soon I will be a pro and
post my very first selfie.
So that pretty much sums up my
adventures of late (in between dancing, singing and keeping everyone one their
toes). Thursday, 31 October 2013

GIVE ME WINGS AND I WILL SWIM
So its been quite a while since
my last wrote. So much has happened. I can jump (and jump and jump). Also, I
have decided that the potty is not such an alarming concept. I can go all by
myself, though its always good to have company in the bathroom. You can talk
and laugh at the same time. Not sure why adults don’t share this view. Actually,
I have come to realize that big people have some pretty strange ideas about
most things. All the things that are the most fun (like climbing up really high,
unpacking all the clothes in the cupboards and throwing things in the toilet)
make them get really stressed out.
My week began with a visit to the
cardiologist for a check up. She took lots pictures of my heart using a big machine
and pronounced me A-OK. I was really good and lay very still. Of course I was
allowed lots of chocolate. I may only be two, but I certainly understand the
concept of bribery. The things I do for chocolate…
Then we had a BIG thunderstorm at
home. Lightning hit a tree near the house and set the tree on fire. The tree
spat fire like a dragon for a whole day and set the grass on fire. Daddy wasn’t
home so Mummy and the neighbours had to play at being firemen and put it out. Finally
the tree fell over and the fire went out after burning for more than a day. I
didn’t get to see much, but it was still very exciting.
I am also still learning to swim.
I have a new pair of superhero wings especially for swimming. I use them in the
swimming pool and now I can move around only holding on a little bit to mummy. I’m
still not really keen on putting my head under water, but superheroes are not
necessarily fish, are they?

HANDY HINTS PART III: ACHIEVING SUCCESS
1. Nothing
is out of reach. Not even the smarties on the top shelf of the pantry. The
trick is to persevere and be creative. (I
find using my pushchair as a portable stepladder does the trick). You, too, can
reach the top shelf.
2. Even
if you have the right keys to the front door, it is no guarantee that you will
be able to open it. Sometimes you need the help of others to get through the
door.
3. Share
your toys. If you give freely, it is far more likely that other people will
share their toys with you.
4. Other
people don’t always share their toys. There is nothing you can do about this.
5. Size
does not stop you from achieving what you want. See point 1. Be creative and
persevere.
6. Own
up to your misdeeds straight away. Don’t try and hide the evidence - it will be
uncovered. (It’s hard to tell people you did not eat all the smarties when you
have chocolate on your chin).
7. Sometimes
it’s good to sit back and peep at people through your fingers. This is a bit
like using online social networks. Just remember that you are still visible.
8. Build
muscle. You never know when it will come in handy. It makes things a lot easier
if you have the right skills.
9. Don’t
be a bully. No-one likes to be shouted at. People are really less likely to
give you what you want if you are nasty.
10. Do
what you love. Do it often. Me, I like candy. Remember. Nothing is out of
reach.
