So, I was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries,
which is a congenital heart defect. This just means I had it when I was born. Even
though TGA is the most common heart defect to be born with, there is still only
about a 1 in 2500 chance of having it,
so that makes me pretty special. I am not saying I am a super hero, but have
you ever seen me and a super hero in the same room?

I was diagnosed when
I was 12 hours old, so it was a BIG surprise. No-one in my family had even
heard of TGA. When I was a week old I had an operation called the arterial
switch to correct it. So not only is it my birthday next month, it is also the
anniversary of the day I had my operation. Its like having two birthdays in one
go. As you will have seen if you have read my previous posts, I am a very
active, normal little person. Actually, normal may be pushing it (did I mention
super heroes?). I just know that my
folks always say it is important to look after your heart by eating healthily
and getting plenty of exercise and listening
to your body. Have you ever listened to your body? I have seriously tried, but I haven’t heard
anything yet – except for the little poops that escape on their own. Speaking
of which, Daddy says that baked beans are good for your heart , the more you
eat; the more you… well you’ve probably heard it before.
So now you know. Kids like me are just like everyone else. Next
month is World Heart Day. Hope you join all the Superheart heroes and love your
heart!
